Richard Demato joins Brown Harris Stevens with a genuine love for real estate. This passion and knowledge of construction and restoring homes, in conjunction with his entrepreneurial business achievements, have led him to work in real estate on a full-time basis.

Prior to entering the real estate business Richard had owned a global textile and manufacturing business. It was an opportunity to travel extensively worldwide and throughout America and literally clothe millions of women annually. The firm was extremely active with a myriad of charities; including The Fashion Institute, AIDS LA and NYC, Fountain House, Joel Finkelstein Cancer research, UJA; and funded research in breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer's.

When not working, he and his family, had lived on a 13.5-acre private island one mile off the coast of Connecticut, developing skills in navigation, boat building, horticultural design (English, rose, and vegetable gardens), and working on anything in need of mechanical repair; when not clamming, fishing, and lobstering! They also generously supported local charities and hosted community, church, and political fundraising events on their property.

Richard was an academician in California. A graduate of The University of California at Irvine, he obtained his B.S. in Biology, subsequent teaching credentials, and ultimately entered their PhD program in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.

Richard moved to the East End in the winter of 2003. He takes pride and joy, with this emotionally rewarding opportunity, to help one family move on with their dreams and enabling another to begin anew.

His interests are many and begin with a deep passion for people and a desire to give back to the community. He is currently Vice President of The Board of The Retreat, an organization dedicated to the protection of children and women, and to ending family violence.

He is also an Honorary Board member of The Southampton Animal Shelter, and has been involved with East End theater, breast cancer research, and local art and artists via The Parrish Art Museum and Guild Hall membership, and Fountain House, NYC, for the care of the mentally ill. Other interests include an Art Gallery in Sag Harbor, RJDGALLERY.com, to raise awareness and help fund the charities he supports.

He is a member of The National Association of Realtors, and HANFRA.
